How UponSale is funded

Where the money comes from

UponSale is free, requires no account, and sells nothing. We intend to fund it through advertising, and we participate in the Amazon Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Where a link points to Amazon it carries our associate tag, and a purchase made through it may earn us a commission at no additional cost to you. Those links appear only in clearly marked supply recommendations — never in a price comparison, and never as one of the offers we track.

What the comparison itself earns

None of the retailer offers we currently track earn UponSale anything. Every “view offer” link on a product page goes straight to that retailer’s own page with no tracking attached. This page is generated from the live data, so the figure above is the current state rather than a claim.

Why this cannot change what you see

The ranking algorithm is separated from commercial data by design. It reads price, shipping certainty, freshness, stock, variant match confidence and anomaly state. It cannot read whether a link is monetised, because that field is not passed to it at all. A commercial destination is substituted only at the moment you click, after the ranking has already been decided.

Concretely, this means a retailer that pays us nothing will outrank one that does if its verified price is lower. That is not a promise of good intentions — it is a property of how the code is written, and you can see the ranking inputs on every product page.

It also does not change which retailers we track, which products we cover, or what our measurements say.

Supply recommendations

Some pages carry a separate, clearly labelled block of consumables and tools — descaler, cleaning detergent, scales, filters. These are recommendations, not measurements. We hold no price data for them, so they carry no price, no rating and no “best” claim from us, and they are never mixed into the offer table. See setup essentials.

Advertising

Where advertising appears it is labelled “Advertisement”, kept visually separate from product data, and never placed adjacent to an offer button where it could be clicked by mistake. Advertising revenue does not influence which products we track, which retailers we add, or how anything is ranked.

Paid placements

We do not run any. If we ever do, they will appear in a distinct block, be explicitly labelled, use the appropriate link attributes, and be excluded from every “best verified price” calculation.

Prices are observations, not guarantees

Prices shown here are what we observed at the timestamp on the page. They change constantly and retailer data is sometimes inconsistent. Always confirm the final price, shipping and availability on the retailer’s own page before buying. See our methodology for exactly how each figure is produced.
