Privacy policy

UponSale is designed to work without knowing who you are. There are no user accounts, no login, and no profile. This page describes the small amount of data the service does handle and why.

Who is responsible for this site

This site is operated by UponSale (“UponSale”, “we”), the publisher of uponsale.com. For any privacy question, including a request to access or erase data, use the contact form; privacy requests are handled directly by the people who run the service rather than routed through a support queue.

What we do not do

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not store a profile about you.
  • We do not sell, rent or share personal data with data brokers.
  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies unless you have consented to them.
  • We do not store raw IP addresses alongside your activity on the site.
  • We do not require you to accept tracking in order to read the site.

What we collect

Aggregate usage counters

We count things, not people. When a page is viewed we increment a per-URL, per-day counter. When a search is submitted we store the search text and how many results it returned. When an outbound offer link is clicked we record which offer, which product and the price at that moment. None of these records contain an identifier for you — they cannot be joined back to a person, a session or a device.

Searches are stored because a search we cannot answer is how our catalogue grows: a product repeatedly searched for and not found automatically becomes a task to start tracking it. Please do not type personal information into the search box.

Server logs

Our web server writes standard request logs, which include an IP address, as every web server does. These are used for security and abuse prevention, are never joined to your activity on the site, and are rotated on a short retention schedule.

Messages you send us

If you use the contact form we store the name, email address and message you provide so we can reply, and we may forward it to our own mailbox. That is the only place on this site where you actively give us personal data, and it is entirely optional. We keep correspondence only as long as needed to deal with it and to keep a record of corrections, then delete it. To have your message deleted sooner, just ask.

Cookies

The site works without any cookie. We do not set analytics or advertising cookies unless and until you consent through a consent notice. Any strictly necessary cookie — for example one remembering your consent choice, or a security token on a form — is set because the site cannot function without it, and carries no advertising identifier.

Advertising

Advertising is not currently enabled on this site. If we enable Google AdSense, this section will state so explicitly and the following applies: Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. For visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland we will use a Google-certified consent management platform, and personalised advertising will not be served without consent. You will be able to change your choice at any time from a link in the footer, and you can review Google’s own practices at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Legal basis (UK/EU visitors)

Aggregate counters and security logging rely on our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving the service — an interest we have kept narrow by not collecting identifiers in the first place. Responding to your message relies on our legitimate interest in answering correspondence you initiated. Any advertising or analytics technology that is not strictly necessary relies on your consent, which you may withdraw at any time.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, erase or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Because we do not hold identifiers for ordinary visitors, in practice these rights mostly concern messages you have sent us. Contact us and we will act on a verified request promptly and without charge.

Data we hold about retailers

We also hold public business information about the retailers we track — domains, shop names, product listings and prices. This is publicly published commercial data, not personal data. If you operate a store and want us to stop reading your site, tell us or refuse us in your site's access rules, and we will stop.

Transfers and processors

The site runs on servers we control. We keep the number of third parties deliberately small; where one is introduced — for example an advertising provider — this page will name it before it goes live.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes

If we change how data is handled — particularly if advertising is switched on — we will update this page before the change takes effect rather than afterwards.

Effective from the date this page was last revised; see the version note at the foot of this page.
